The internet loves numbered lists! They are DIGG-bait! They are debate-bait! They are rebloggable-bait! So we must comply. On another level, lists serve the function of opening worlds. For example, This Recordings’s arbitrary list of the 100 greatest sci-fi novels of all-time, OF ALL TIME, contains many gems by the likes of Robert Heinlein, Neal Stephenson, Gene Wolf, Phillip K. Dick and Ursula Le Guin.
Maybe too much, I don’t know. But there are also many notable exceptions like William Gibson and Neil Gaimon and Stansilaw Lem. Oh well. I’m just excited for something new to read.
