White Rabbits play for Myspace

Posted on Thursday, October 8th, 2009

MySpace isn’t good for much these days, but I have been enjoying their MySpace Transmissions, whereby the coax good bands to play a short live session and do an interview.  But unlike other sites that do something similar (and to be sure there are hundreds), MySpace makes the audio available for download at 320 kbps.  [...]

New White Rabbits video – “Percussion Gun”

Posted on Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

It’s all apart of my quest to help these guys become the biggest band in the world. Mwaahahah. No, but seriously, The White Rabbits have it going on. Some people reduce them to being Cold War Kids-esque and well, fine, okay. But it’s like comparing Mean GirlsLindsay Lohan to whatever she’s doing today. See where [...]

White Rabbits bring “Percussion Gun” to Letterman

Posted on Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Brooklyn’s White Rabbits were the breakout band in 2007 here at Oyster headquarters.  And so when their newly-released album It’s Frightening dropped in May we were taken off guard.
Not because we weren’t expecting it, but because producer Britt Daniel (Spoon frontman) managed to capture the drumtastic-excellence of their live show. The thumping piano, so prevalent [...]

MFNW: Britt Daniel at Wonder Ballroom 9/5/08

Posted on Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Britt Daniel is one of us.  Yeah sure, he’s the front man for Spoon and that makes him nothing like us on a certain level.  But seeing him kick around Portland at shows, whether it’s checking out White Rabbits or Los Compesinos!, I get the impression he’s one of us.
Wearing jeans, red chucks and t-shirts [...]

Sasquatch rolls out initial lineup

Posted on Monday, February 25th, 2008

The Sasquatch! Music Festival, held along the Columbia River at the Gorge Ampitheater gears up with a great lineup, including The Flaming Lips, The National, R.E.M., M.I.A., Modest Mouse, The Cure and Death Cab For Cutie.
Even if Bonnaroo, All Points West, SXSW and Coachella soak in the buzz, top to bottom we’ll take this lineup [...]

The Oysters favorite songs in 2007

Posted on Friday, December 21st, 2007

We’ll keep this brief because you’ve probably tired of the ever growing year end list. We’re getting fatigued as well just trying to keep up and trying to sort stuff out as well. Seems every time we come across another list there is always something there to remind us of what we loved [...]

The Oyster’s favorite albums in 2007

Posted on Friday, December 21st, 2007

Brevity is the devil’s gift my friend. We’ll keep it to a paragraph for each of the following albums. It must be noted ahead of time that we excluded the following albums from consideration:

Feist – “The Reminder”
Radiohead – “In Rainbows”
LCD Soundsystem – “Sound of Silver”
Arcade Fire – “Neon Bible”

Not because we didn’t love [...]

Paste Magazine names “The Boxer” best album

Posted on Monday, November 26th, 2007

Ah, I bet all you old folks thought I was perhaps talkin’ bout Simon & Garfunkle’s seminal work of music.  Truth be told though, Simon & Garfunkle’s “Boxer” is slightly better choice to listen to than Paste Magazine’s number one album from 2007.  They chose The National’s Boxer, and it’s probably the first sign of [...]

A suggestion for the next “Young Folks”

Posted on Monday, October 1st, 2007

White Rabbits – “The Plot” (Mp3)
This has everything a great song should have for a CW soundtrack: youthful energy, a propulsive rhythm, several “whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa-oh-oh’s,” and that great line “he’s not impressed.” It conveys a scenester ennui, both commenting on the rich kid slacker type and the iconoclast – apart of, yet detached from that [...]

Monolith Festival Roundup

Posted on Friday, September 21st, 2007

Haven’t seen much out there on this, but the first ever Monolith Festival out at Red Rocks was held last weekend. We’ve been sort of following the development of this festival all year and then of course, when it actually happened we totally spaced.
Luckily for us we’ve got an old friend checking in, Ken [...]

Monolith Festival schedule announced

Posted on Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Well, as we were taking a break from finding out whether Jack White had a boy or girl and if said child was going to be opaque or transluscent, we got word that the Monolith Schedule had been announced.
Now, we’ve been thrilled at the idea of a two day music event at one of the [...]
