Kudos to Leonardo Dalessandri for his brilliant use of Cinematic Orchestra’s “To Build a Home” set to everyday people enjoying/living their lives. What drew me to this is the voyueristic nature of seeing true beauty shine through and of course, that haunting song — one I assumed was Patrick Watson at first.

It looks as if Canada’s Polaris Music Prize is beginning to find its sealegs, so to speak. During its first three years, the award was generally perceived as a lamp to shine on deserving, if unknown, musicians (Final Fantasy’s He Poos Clouds in 2006, Patrick Watson’s Close To Paradise in 2007 and Caribou’s Andorra in 2008).

Patrick Watson just released a video for “Fireweed” off of his latest release Wooden Arms. I was stunned by the simple imagery of a man walking alone and then turning into an illustration. And in a way, it’s pretty fitting for his new album. One of the best for 2009.

Montreal outfit Patrick Watson snatched this year’s Polaris Music Prize, given to Canada’s best album. The won it for their beautiful and splendid album Closer to Paradise.
